紅十勝石(ヴァーミリオンオブシディアン)

約150万年前、大雪山の激しい火山活動によって生まれたオブシディアンです。
昔から「矢じり」や「ナイフ」などの道具に加工され、親しまれてきました。
川を流れて外側は傷がついて白っぽくなりますが、かすかに真黒なガラス質が外から見えるものもあります。
その中でも赤いものを地元ではヴァーミリオンオブシディアンと呼び、今では希少となっています。

Obsidian was generated by a furious volcanic activity of Mt Daisetsu about 1.5 million years ago.
Processed into tools like arrowheads and knives, obsidian has been loved by people since prehistoric days.
There are types that looks a little white because they were floating in the river, and others contain pitch black glassy texture that are spotted from the outside. Also, types with red texture have been collected from time to time and they’re called Vermillion Obsidian. Now it`s becoming difficult to obtain.
