両神石

秩父三山の一つ両神山は、古来より信仰の対象でした。
名前の由来には諸説あり、伊邪那岐と伊邪那美の二神が鎮座するからという説や、龍神が住んでいるから「龍神山」ということからという説がありますが、どちらにしても神々が住まう山だということがわかります。
両神山の石は非常に固く、チャートで主に構成された山として知られています。
チャートは放散虫などの化石が堆積してできたものなので、この地が昔は海だったことを示します。

Mount Ryokami, one of the three mountains of Chichibu, has been an object of worship since ancient times. There are various theories about the origin of the name, one of them is because the two gods Izanagi and Izanami resided here, and another theory is it is called "Dragon God Mountain" because the dragon god lived here, but either way, it is clear that it is a mountain where gods live. The stone of Mount Ryokami is very hard, and the mountain is known to be composed mainly of chert. Chert is formed by the accumulation of fossils such as radiolarians, indicating that this land was once the sea.
