新潟チャート

放散虫や海綿動物が海底に堆積した化石です。
断面をルーペで見ると、その化石の断片が見られることもあります。
海底に他の鉱物などが混ざらない条件でなければ形成されず、環境が一定条件に整わなければならないため、産地は限られます。
新潟チャートは三畳紀の堆積物です。
石自体は非常に硬く、層状になっているため、割れると鋭利になります。
色とりどりなうえ、光を透過するので、見た目もとても美しいです。

This fossil was formed when radiolarians and sponges were deposited on the seafloor. When you look at a cross section with a loupe, you can sometimes see fragments of the fossils. They can only be formed when there are no other minerals mixed in with the seafloor, and because certain environmental conditions must be met, they can only be found in limited areas. Niigata chert is a deposit from the Triassic period. The stone itself is very hard and layered, so it becomes sharp when we break it. It is colorful and light can be transmitted, making it very beautiful to look at.
