出雲碧玉

古事記や日本書紀でも登場する“出雲”。
三種の神器のひとつ八尺瓊勾玉は、出雲碧玉でできているともいわれています。
八尺瓊勾玉は、現存するにも関わらず、天皇家も、現在も過去も誰も見た者がなく、文献も残っていません。
八尺瓊勾玉の「瓊」の字は「赤」を意味し、「赤い碧玉製なのではないか?」といわれています。
大和王権があったと言い伝えられる奈良では、古墳時代の遺跡から、この出雲碧玉が多く出土されています。
日本では碧玉の産地はいくつかありますが、太古の昔から権力の象徴として所有されていたほど良質だったことが伺えます。

Izumo appears in the Records of Ancient Matters and The Chronicles of Japan. The Yasakani no Magatama, one of the Three Sacred Treasures, is said to be made from Izumo jade. Even the Yasakani no Magatama still exists, no one, past or present, including the emperor family, has ever seen it, and no documents remain. The character “瓊” in Yasakani no Magatama means “red,” so it is thought that it may be made from red jasper. In Nara, where the Yamato royal authority is said to have existed, many Izumo jasper pieces have been excavated from ruins from the Kofun period. There are several areas in Japan where jasper is produced, but the fact that it has been owned as a symbol of trees since ancient times suggests that it has a high quality.
