産地の庄原市には古事記にも登場する“国造りの神”「イザナミノミコト」の陵墓があるとされています。
イザナミノミコトはイザナギノミコトと共にアメノヌボコという矛で日本列島を作ったという伝説があります。
その創造と神話性を持つ石。
石の特徴から愛を象徴する石ともいわれています。

Pyrophyllite is a type of leaf rock that is very soft and has a unique, soapy, slippery feel that is addictive to the touch. It is also known as tiger stone because the blue ripple-like patterns contained within the pyrophyllite. Shobara City, where this stone is produced, is said to be having the site of the tomb of Izanami-no-mikoto, the “god of nation-making” who also appears in the Kojiki. Izanami-no-mikoto is one of the gods who played an important role in Japanese mythology, and it is said that she created the Japanese archipelago together with her husband Izanagi-no-mikoto using Ame-no-Nuboko.
