古来より、インドのヒンドゥー教では、ヒマラヤ杉は「聖なる木」として崇められてきました。
ヒマラヤ杉の育つ森には賢者が住み、シヴァ神に祈りを捧げてきました。
シヴァ神は仏教にも影響を与えた神で、破滅と創造を意味します。
それ以外にも、杉の香りにリラックス効果や殺菌消毒効果があると期待されています。
パキスタンでは、ヒマラヤ杉は「国の木」として定められています。
