吉野山の桜は修験道の祖、役行者が吉野の桜で
金峯山寺の蔵王権現の像を刻んだとの伝承が残っている、約1300年も前から「ご神木」として崇拝され、手厚く保護されてきました。
春には下千本から奥千本にかけて約三万本という世界に類を見ない規模の桜がき誇り、その光景は、"一目に千本見える 豪華さ"という意味「一目千本」「千本桜」等と形容され、西行法師、松尾芭蕉の歌にもその美しさは詠まれています。
また、豊臣秀吉が1594(文禄3)年、徳川家康、前田利家、伊達 政宗ら烈々たる武将をはじめ、茶人、連師たちを伴い、総勢5千人でお花見に訪れたという逸話が残っています。
There is a legend that En no Gyoja, the founder of Shugendo carved a statue of Kinpusenji Temple`s zao Gongenfrom the sakura tree of Mt. Yoshino.
Since more than about 1300years ago Yoshino Sakura has been worshipped as a sacred tree bloom in the spring, and respectful protected.
From Shimosenbon (This is the renominations of Mt. Yoshino area) to Okusenbon, from bottom to top of the MT Yoshino, about 30.000 sakura tree bloom in the spring this soectable of cherry blossom in full bloom, on a scale unparalleled in the rest of the world, has been described by the phrases "hitomesenbon" and "senbonzakura" with meaning "the luxury of being able to see a thousand with just a glance.
"Its beauty is also sung in the poem of Saigyo Hoshi and Basho Matuo.
