熊野本宮銀杏

熊野本宮大社のある、和歌山県田辺市本宮町本宮でとれる木。
熊野本宮大社は熊野三山（本宮・速玉・那智各大社）の中心、全国に4700社以上ある熊野神社の総本宮です。
家都美御子大神（けつみみこのおおかみ）を主祭神としていますが、家都美御子大神は日本神話のスサノオノミコトと同じ神様です。
熊野古道を紅葉の時期に鮮やかにしているのはこの本宮の銀杏の木です。
また熊野本宮大社の近く、福定の宝泉寺境内にある樹齢推定400年の大銀杏は、町指定記念物とされています。もともと銀杏は約2億年前から存在する「生きた化石」と呼ばれる木で長寿の象徴ともいわれています。

The circumference of the trunk is 5.3mt and the height is 22 mt.
It is a 4 mt high from the base and has a several trunks and is also called "1000 branchginkgo tree".
Originally ginkgo tree gave existed for about 200 million years and are said to be a symbol of longevity that`s why is said to be called the living fossil.
