栗瘤（くりこぶ）

栗瘤は、木材としても非常に優れ、銘木として扱われます。
木目のしっかりした環孔材で、磨くと光沢が出て硬く弾力性もあり狂いも少ないとされています。
非常に保存性に優れており、耐湿性も高いため、木造家屋の土台などに昔から最も使われてきました。
さらに、防腐剤を使用しないで使える数少ない材として重宝されてきました。
この特質から栗の木を身近に置くと腐らずに頑張れる！といわれ観賞用に飾る方も多くいます。
瘤杢目といわれる独特な模様があり花梨瘤についで貴重で人気があります。

It is a ring-porous wood with a firm grain, and is said to be shiny when polished, hard, elastic, and less prone to warping.
It has excellent preservation properties and high moisture resistance, so it has long been used for the foundations of wooden houses.
It is also prized as one of the few materials that can be used without the use of preservatives.
Because of this characteristic, it is said that if you keep chestnut wood close to you, you will survive and not rot! Many people display it as an ornamental piece.
It has a unique pattern called burl grain, which makes it the second most valuable and popular wood after the Chinese quince.
