高野山では、古来より「杉」「檜」「樅」「栂」「赤松」「高野槙」の６種類の針葉樹を育てています。
寺院建築に使用をするため、伐採を制限しており、これらの樹木を高野六木として大切に保護し、育成、寺院の建築復興に用いています。

お大師様(弘法大師)が下賜され、修禅の道場として開いた日本仏教における聖地。
高野山を弥勒浄土とする信仰と相まって、一般群衆の信仰と尊敬を集め、千年以上も前から現在に至るまで多くの人々のお参りが絶えません。
ユネスコ世界遺産に登録されて以来、世界各国からたくさんの方が訪れています。

Since ancient time, the six species of coniferous trees at Mt Koya (Hinoki, tsuga, koyamaki, akamatsu, sugi, momi) have been know as "Koya Rikuboku" and their logging has been restricted under the Tomegi system.
Rikuboku is especially important as a building material for temples.
Kodo Daishi Kukai distributed a Rikuboku rosary and embarked on the reconstruction of Mt Koya.
It is said that gather all the six types of wood is extremely difficult.
