沈香

沈香は香木の王様といわれ、多くの人を魅了してきました。
ものによっては非常に高値で取引されます。
風雨や病気・害虫などによって樹木を侵されたとき、その防御策としてダメージ部に樹脂を分泌、蓄積したものが香りのもととなります。
それらを乾燥させ、木部を削り取ったものが香木として流通します。
特に質の良いものは伽羅（キャラ）と呼ばれ、非常に貴重なものとして乱獲された事から、現在では、ワシントン条約の希少品目第二種とされています。
沈香の効能として、鎮静効果が非常に高く、この香りを嗅ぐことでアルファー波が増すことや最近の研究では心地よさをもたらす脳内物質も分泌されることがわかってきています。

Agarwood is said to be the king of fragrant woods and has fascinated many people.
Some pieces are traded at very high prices. When trees are attacked by wind, rain, disease, or pests, they secrete resin into the damaged area as a defense mechanism, and the accumulated resin becomes the source of the fragrance.
These are dried and the wood is scraped off to be sold as fragrant wood.
The particularly high-quality ones are called Kyara, and since they were so valuable that they were over-harvested, they are now classified as a Type 2 rare item by the Washington Convention.
Agarwood has a very strong sedative effect, and it has been found that smelling its scent increases alpha waves, and recent research has shown that it also secretes brain chemicals that bring about comfort.
