神代楢（なら）

楢とは、広葉樹の一種でブナ科の植物のことで、外国では近緑種をオークと呼んでおり、木目が粗く、色も白いとされています。
その中でも、コナラやミズナラが神代楢とされたものです。
本来、心材は暗灰褐色で辺材は灰白色をしているのが特徴で、柾木面に虎斑が現れることで知られている。
材質としては緻密で硬く、変形しにくいため、強度と耐久性に優れています。
緻密になっている分だけ思い木材だが、美しい木目を持っていることから、家具にも使われるが、海外のものは硬く変形しにくい特性を生かしてウィスキー樽に使われていたため神代楢は海外でも稀に見つかります。

It is a very dense wood, but because it has a beautiful grain is also used for furniture, but the overseas oak is hard and does not easily deform, so it was used for making whiskey barrels, so Jindai oak is imported from overseas. But it's rarely found.
