ねずこは木曾五木の1つで、長野県の南西部、中央アルプスと御嶽山系に挟まれた木曽地域の木です。
豊臣秀吉は、木曽全域を自らの蔵入地として支配し、1665年徳川家康統治の時代には尾張藩が留山制度を敷き、木曽五木の伐採を禁止しました。
そのため、文豪・島崎藤村の小説「夜明け前」の冒頭の一説で「木曾路はすべて山の中である」と語られるほど美しい山として今も受け継がれています。
鼠子の名は材色が鼠色なため、木偏に鼠をつけた当て字で「ネズコ」と読ませていたようです。
富山県黒部地方にも多いことから、別名「クロベ」「クロベスギ」などとも呼ばれます。
Nezuko is one of the Five Trees of Kiso found in the Kiso region, a southwestern part of Nagano Prefecture that is sandwiched between the Central Alps and the Ontake mountain range.
Nezuko wood is very beautiful, has a fine grain and shines when polished. Some beautiful and long-lived trees are sold for millions of yen.
