Yufu Akaishi (Niigata Prefecture) [Famous Japanese Stone]

Yufu Akaishi

This red part is rarely found in Yufu Topaz, collected in the Kokura area of Sado.
Unlike the Akadama stone found in the Akadama area, it is characterized by its deep color.
Currently, mining of this mineral is prohibited, just like Yufu Topaz.

Akadama is one of the three most famous Japan stones. It is a mineral formed when large amounts of iron oxide are combined with quartz under high temperature and pressure. Since ancient times, it has been said that the red color of Akadama can wards off evil spirits, and it has been considered an auspicious stone. It was originally mined around Sugiike Pond, where the dragon god is enshrined, but since 1980, Akadama has been protected and the amount in circulation has drastically decreased, making it rare now. It is a famous stone that it has a history of being presented to Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
