Mishima Old Fuji Lava <Shizuoka Prefecture> [Famous Stones of Japan]
Old FUJI Lava Stone
Mishima Old Fuji Lava
The sacred Mount Fuji has undergone repeated eruptions since about 100,000 years ago, resulting in its current appearance.
In particular, the eruption that occurred about 10,000 years ago is called the "Mishima Lava," and it is said to have flowed for about 40 km, filling the valleys of Mount Ashitaka and Mount Hakone.
The reason why it spread so widely is said to be because the eruption was not violent, but rather the lava flowed and erupted like a river.
Regular Fuji lava comes from the eruption in 1707, so this is a precious lava that erupted an incredibly long time ago.
