Chichibu Blue Stone (Saitama Prefecture) [Famous Japanese Stone]

Chichibu Aoishi

This chlorite is mined in the Chichibu region of Saitama Prefecture.
The stone comes from the Sanbagawa metamorphic belt, which stretches for 1,000 kilometers.
This is a soft, non-shiny Ishiga.
The 5.37m Nogami Shimogo Stone Stupa, built around 700 years ago, is the tallest in Japan.
It is inscribed with Sanskrit characters meaning Shaka Nyorai.
