Nezuko is one of the five Kiso trees and is found in the Kiso region in the southwest of Nagano Prefecture, sandwiched between the Central Alps and the Ontake mountain range.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi controlled the entire Kiso region as his own treasury land, and in 1665, during the reign of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the Owari domain established a mountain reservation system and banned the felling of the five Kiso trees.
For this reason, the mountain is still considered so beautiful that the opening passage of the novel "Before Dawn" by the literary master Shimazaki Toson states that "the entire Kiso Road is in the mountains."
Because Nezuko's body is gray in color, the name was pronounced "Nezuko" by combining the "mouse" character with the "wood" radical.
Since it is also found in abundance in the Kurobe region of Toyama Prefecture, it is also known as "kurobe" or "kurobesugi."
Nezuko is one of the Five Trees of Kiso found in the Kiso region, a southwestern part of Nagano Prefecture that is sandwiched between the Central Alps and the Ontake mountain range.
Nezuko wood is very beautiful, has a fine grain and shines when polished. Some beautiful and long-lived trees are sold for millions of yen.
