The cedars are mainly produced in the Yoshino forestry region in central and southern Nara Prefecture, one of Japan's three most beautiful forests.
The 250-Year Forest, which has been cultivated through continuous thinning for generations, is a popular spot for forest therapy.
The history of Yoshino cedar planting is long, and is said to have begun approximately 500 years ago during the Muromachi period.
Yoshino cedar is grown in a unique style known as the "Yoshino style" or "Yoshino forestry," and many of the trees are planted over 100 or 200 years ago.
It is said that it was used as material for castle construction, including Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Osaka Castle and Kenshiro Castle, as well as shrines.
