It is lighter than domestic hinoki cypress and having a luxuriant texture.
It has a unique aroma, and the heartwood is from pale reddish-brown color to reddish-yellow color.
The sapwood is narrow and yellowish-gray color. It is an approachable sacred tree that is also used in temples and Buddhist statues.
In the Alishan National Scenic Area, there is a huge tree that is over 1,000 years old and is currently protected as a sacred tree.
