The power of wood The power to connect all kinds of connections, prosperity, eternity, and time

[A very precious National Arbor Day wood bracelet!]
On April 18, 1971, the 22nd National Tree Planting Festival was held in Shimane Prefecture.
Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun were welcomed and an Izumo black pine tree was planted.
The National Tree-Planting Festival is an important imperial visit for the Imperial Family and is considered one of the "Three Great Imperial Visits." At the 1991 festival, Crown Prince Naruhito (who became Emperor on May 1, 2019) pruned the Izumo Kuromatsu tree.
At that time, approximately 15,000 people gathered from inside and outside the prefecture, and participants in the ceremony planted approximately 19,000 commemorative trees.
[Powerful tree, black pine]
Izumo black pine is a tree that grows mainly along the coastline of the Sanin region. It is known as an extremely strong tree, as it continues to produce pine resin even after it is cut down.
This is a black pine tree from the mythical world of "Izumo," which appears as an important place in the Japanese mythology "Kojiki" and "Nihon Shoki."

Kuromatsu (black pine) is the prefectural tree of Shimane Prefecture.
Shimane's Izumo City is famous for its Izumo Taisha Shrine, but it is also known for Inaba's white rabbits and Kuniyuzuri myths that appear in the Japanese "Kojiki" and "Nihonshoki."
Since ancient times, it has been an important, mysterious place, inseverable from Japanese history.
It is said that Izumo Kuromatsu wood cannot be used as a material until it has passed at least over 100 years of age – the reason being that only the heartwood is used, since the white part of the sapwood is soft and high in water content, which encourages the growth of mold.
This type of wood is very valuable and hard to obtain, because the amount of pulpwood available has radically declined, due to pine weevils and salt water damage.
