Kamiyo Katsura is not seen very often.
The katsura tree, which has an attractive shape and is often planted as a symbolic tree, is said to have taken its name from the scent of its leaves, which give off a sweet fragrance after falling. As such, the name katsura is said to come from the word kazuru, which means "fragrant."
Katsura is known as a long-lived tree, and many old trees ranging from several hundred to over a thousand years old have been designated as natural monuments all over Japan, including the oldest such tree in Japan, the Itoi no Taikatsu (2,000 years old, 20 meters in circumference, Hyogo Prefecture).
The Katsura trees in Shinjuku Gyoen are said to be one of the trees that have been there since even before the Meiji period when the gardens became an imperial garden.

Jindai Katsura is a rare tree that you see rarely.
The katsura tree is often planted as a symbolic tree because of its pleasant shape.
The name "katsura" is said to be derived from the scent of the leaves because the leaves emit a sweet scent after having fallen from the tree.
Katsura is also know as a tree of longevity, it is said to be the oldest tree in Japan.
Tree that are more than 1000 years old are designated as natural monument in various parts of Japan.
The katsura tree in Shinjiku Gyoen is said to be one of the tree even older than Meiji era, the period when the Shinjuku Gyoen become an imperial garden.
However there are only a few natural katsura trees and even less Jindai one.
